Press Release 'Paul Marsden MP Lambasts Arrogant Blair'

Although this Press Release was in 2002, remember New Labour's '24 HOURS TO SAVE THE NHS - 1997 Election Platform'.

OUR COMMEMTS: A lot of cash has gone into the NHS. Chief Executive's pay off's, administrators, legal teams and general wasteage - but CASH CANNOT BUY COMPASSION

January 24nd 2002 - Transcript

Paul Marsden, Liberal Democrat MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham today lashed out at the Prime Minister for breath taking arrogance. Mr Marsden was appalled at the way the Prime Minister attempted to brush off the complaints of relatives to Mrs Rose Addis about the way she had been treated by the NHS.

Mr Marsden said, "Unless there is a full independent enquiry no one will know the whole truth of how Mrs Addis was treated, but the way the Prime Minister has instantly dismissed her relatives complaints shows what an arrogant out of touch Prime Minister he has become.

"The overwhelming majority of NHS staff do their best every waking moment of the day to look after their patients. But with a lack of money available it is inevitable that some patients are going to suffer poor treatment. We need better management in the health service but more than anything it needs a massive boost of cash. It is time to end the disgraceful situation of the NHS being run on a shoestring and playing on the goodwill of nurses and doctors to keep performing miracles. They are tired and worn out from being stretched to breaking point.

"Since I presented a Bill in Parliament two years ago I have come across dozens of cases of neglect with bureaucrats obstructing and excusing poor care and a lack of dignity for the elderly. The Prime Minister should spend five minutes on a NHS ward alone and without his entourage and then he would see the reality. The NHS needs hard cash and patients need a big dose of TLC - tender loving care. We have to face facts that TLC costs money and this Labour Government refuses to pay the bill."
